1. Fold both edges of the body of the garment toward the center to form a rectangle.

2. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise.

3.  Fold this in half lengthwise.

The first rectangle is long. Folding it in half helps to reinforce the garments’ shape. When folding, grasp the thinner or weaker part of the garment, which is the neck for tops and the legs for pants. Rather than folding it all the way to the edge of the bottom layer, leave a little gap. The goal of these two steps is to create a firmer and cleaner shape. Adjust for height by folding again, either half or in thirds for most clothes. Use palm of your hands when folding instead of fingers. You’ve decided to keep the clothes because they spark joy so fold joyfully. Folding and storing is actually an important opportunity to talk to your belongings and thank them for taking care of you.
